THE 5% INITIATIVE RESPONSE TO COVID-19
In this period of health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Expertise France and the 5% Initiative are mobilising in response to the coronavirus. The COVID-19 pandemic is today, according to the WHO, a global health and social emergency. It now affects most countries in the world and has led to an almost complete halt to international travel and to containment measures in a large number of countries, including France.
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Expertise France is adapting its operational system in line with the instructions of the French authorities. The entire 5% Initiative team is thus mobilised, remotely, to ensure the continuation of the system's activities.
The operational system of the 5% Initiative is therefore adapted for this period. As of 17 March, the 5% Initiative had to suspend all new short technical assistance missions, and to terminate in advance the short missions in progress. However, some of them are still being carried out remotely.
The 5% Initiative remains attentive to developments and ensures its commitment to support all eligible countries. Throughout this period, the 5% Initiative wishes to contribute to the dissemination of verified and affordable information via practical fact sheets on COVID-19 and its link with the mechanisms for tackling HIV, tuberculosis and malaria:
- >>> Fact sheet n°1: What is COVID-19? (in french)
- >>> Fact sheet n°2: COVID-19 and HIV.(in french)
- >>> Fact sheet n°3 : COVID-19 and Tuberculosis (in french)
- >>> Fact sheet n°4 : COVID-19 and Malaria (in french)
Others are being produced; these sheets will be updated regularly!
In view of the exceptional working circumstances caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, the Steering Committee of the 5% Initiative decided to cancel the 2020 second call for operational research proposal.
Under the theme "Improving the fight against malaria in the Greater Sahel and Central Africa", this second call for proposal was due to be launched on 2020 April 1st .
The first call for proposal on the same theme is still ongoing but has been adapted. The project leaders, whose letters of intent have been selected, will now have 3 more weeks to submit their full proposal. Projects are therefore expected to be submitted by 2020, June 5th .
The 5% Initiative team remains at your disposal for any further questions.
